Lacon is a universal loading facility designed for transhipment of general cargo, ferrous and nonferrous rolled metal, bulk-break cargo, cast iron, ore, coal and other types of cargo.

Before the commencement of coal transhipment, Lacon worked with large quantities of ferrous rolled metal of both open and indoor storage from “Severstal” - famous iron and steel works from Cherepovets, as well as other major companies.

Welcome to our site,

Riga Free Port Stevedoring Company Ltd. "LaCon" territorially is situated at the mouth of Daugava river, straightly at the port's entrance gate and at present occupies territory of 27,2 hectares.

Having more than ten years of experience at work with different cargo, starting from April 2003, "LaCon" Company is engaged in coal transshipment. The complex of services, offered to Clients, includes all possible operations, starting with acceptance of carrier's railcars at destination railway station Bolderaja with possible reweighing, and ending with magnetic cleaning, separation (sorting) and crashing of cargo. Good relations, established with forwarding organizations, allow to supply the Client with all the necessary information about cargo traffic to stevedoring company, starting already from the territory of Russian Federation, and allows to predict in due time the necessary cargo volume for formation of vessels' lots and to solve issues of vessels' berthing for loading operatively.

In April-May of 2003, the monthly volume of coal for handling was 30-50 000 MT, but at the end of the year it reached the monthly level of 150 000 MT. At present "LaCon" Company develops sharply. By method of reclaiming land from sea, an additional storage yard of 3,4 ha is created. The reclaiming of land from sea continues and in 2010 total space of terminal reached 27 ha. Other spaces are built and equipped as open coal storages at terminal, increasing terminal capacity more than twice.

During whole the period of work with coal cargo, the maximum quantity, stored at „LaCon” territory at once, was reached- – 400 thousand MT of coal of 6 different marks at once, while before the calculated maximum of coal of 2-3 different marks reached 300 thousand MT. Working practice at unloading and storage led to new solutions – during the practice of cargo unloading new techniques to increase constantly the capacities of terminal storage spaces were discovered, and currently, besides the above mentioned 400 thousand MT, at „ LaCon” it is possible to accept and store about 150 thousand MT of coal. Now we can state assertively, that current capacity of terminal open separate simultaneous storage of coal cargos is from 500 to 600 thousand MT, depending from amount of coal piles and marks.

Thus, WORKING PRACTICE HAS PROVED THAT AT 400 THOUSAND MT OF 6 DIFFERENT COAL MARKS STORED IN THE PORT, IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACCEPT AND STORE ADDITIONALLY AT LEAST 150 THOUSAND MT OF COAL AND TO STORE TOTAL AMOUNT OF UP TO 600 THOUSAND MT!

Besides that, there are 3 fully equipped warehouses of covered storage with total space of 5 thousand square meters.

After the complex of ground deepening works has been carried, actual depth of the berth DG- 1 access channel and aquatory is more than 13,5 meters, thus giving a possibility to „LaCon” Company to accept for handling "Panamax" vessels. In company’ s nearest plans there is a reconstruction and deepening of berth DG -1 to the depth of 15,5 meters and handling of "Panamax" vessels up to their full load.

Creation of new territories in the port continues and together with accomplished modernization of technical base, (introduction of mobile cranes and gantry- cranes, bucket loaders and crushing-sorting equipment) by construction of railway roads allowed the stevedoring Company "LaCon" to exceed monthly transshipment volume of 300 000 MT in 2005. Company's further development plans also include construction of second berth and introduction of vessels loading machine with loading speed up to 1000 MT per hour. The total annual coal throughput in 2005 has reached the monthly level of 360 000 MT and gradually, by taking planned measures of modernization, allows to increase monthly transshipment volume from 360 000 MT up to 420 000 MT.

Powerful cranes' equipment, wheel machinery park, and coal processing equipment allows to insure the unloading of more than 150 entities of railcars per day and loading of more than 20 000 MT of coal per day onboard of vessels, „Panamax” vessels inclusive. Advantageous geographical situation, flexible price system, modern technical equipment and implementation of new technologies give our Customers a possibility to perform their business profitably and to have the best competitive conditions.

We would like to thank all our customers and partners for our co-operation and we invite all the persons, interested in our mutual business, to dialogue.
